Welcome to the Farm School on the Creek, in the heart of the Pisgah National Forest.
A place where childhood slows down and learning comes alive by being rooted in faith and surrounded by God’s creation.
The Foundation
Our mission is to glorify God by partnering with parents to cultivate wisdom, virtue, and stewardship in the hearts and minds of students through a Christ-centered, biblical education. We train young men and women to think clearly, speak eloquently, and live faithfully. Laboring together with God to convey spiritual truth, while maintaining high academic standards in education. Brown Mountain Academy unites practical homesteading work ethic with timeless truth, to prepare students to serve their families, churches, and communities with humility, integrity, and purpose.
A Typical Day on the Creek
Each day on the farm is filled with purpose, discovery, and joy—rooted in faith and grounded in hands-on learning.
8:00 AM – Arrival & Morning Gathering
We begin our day together with prayer, scripture, and a short devotional. It’s a quiet, centering moment to reflect and prepare our hearts for the day ahead.
8:30 AM – Farm Chores & Stewardship
Students head out for morning farm tasks—feeding animals, gathering eggs, watering gardens. These chores build responsibility, a strong work ethic, and a connection to God’s creation.
9:15 AM – Core Academics (Reading, Writing, Math)
Back in our learning spaces, we focus on foundational skills through a mix of guided instruction and hands-on activities, tailored to meet each student where they are no matter age or grade.
11:00 AM – Outdoor Exploration or Nature-Based Learning
We take learning outside—whether it’s a nature walk, journaling under a tree, or studying science through what’s growing in the garden. The natural world is our classroom.
12:00 PM – Farm-Fresh Lunch & Fellowship
We share a healthy, often farm-grown lunch together, practicing gratitude and good conversation while learning structure and the importance of a family meal. We teach the children to properly set a table and even have community visitors come to talk and teach through lunch conversation. (While it is not uncommon to grab some produce from the garden, students will need to bring their own lunch each day.)
12:45 PM – Quiet Time or Independent Reading
After lunch, we slow down with a short time of rest, reflection, or reading—giving minds and bodies a chance to recharge. This is the time we might catch up on a subject indidivually or a change for Ms. Melissa to chat with the children on an individual basis.
1:15 PM – Hands-On Learning
Afternoons are for creative exploration—building things, working in teams, doing art, or diving into projects that blend science, history, and faith in meaningful ways.
2:15 PM – Reflection, Prayer & Play
We close our day with a short time of prayer and gratitude, then spend time in free outdoor play—running, climbing, imagining, and just enjoying being kids.
3:00 PM – Dismissal
With dirty hands, full hearts, and minds filled with wonder, students head home—ready to rest and return for another day of learning and growing in God’s creation.
** On Wednesdays, we have a Chapel service with a short lesson from a local pastor as well as singing.
Each month, and season dependent, we will be joined by a community member for a day to showcase local talent and to spark interest in children’s passion.
**Please Note: Our schedule has the liberty to change based off of the students needs and what is happening on the farm that day.
Why us? Why this Community? A note from the founders.
Our story begins with humble roots and a front-row seat to watching God do what only He can—make a way where there seemed to be none.
Caldwell County is a place of stunning beauty, strong values, and some of the most incredible kids and families you’ll ever meet. But like many communities, it’s also a place in need—specifically, a need for something different when it comes to education. We believe children deserve more than desks and tests. They need a space where faith is the foundation, where their hearts are nurtured alongside their minds, and where their individuality is not only seen but celebrated and most importantly where the heart of a child is considered and made the first priority.
That’s the mindset and purpose behind the Farm School on the Creek. It is a school rooted in God’s Word, where learning is hands-on, purpose-filled, and led by wonder. A place where childhood is slowed down, where kids are free to explore, ask big questions, and grow at their own pace.
We’re not just building a school—we’re building a community. We want to walk alongside you in this journey of parenting, supporting one another as we raise up a generation of free thinkers, Jesus lovers, and lifelong learners.
This isn’t a one-family mission. It’s a movement. And we’re so glad you’re here.
With love and purpose,
Jeremy, Kelsey and Melissa
